By: Nicole Bernal Marcial

Details of the webinar

Last October 12, the UP System Information Technology Foundation has conducted the annual IT event, Youth Congress on Information Technology. Established in 2003, the Youth Congress on Information Technology (formerly known as the Philippine Youth Congress on Information Technology)—commonly known as Y4it. Aimed primarily at college students, professionals, educators, IT experts and enthusiasts, Y4iT is an enabling event for today's youth and aspires to recognize young Filipinos as key drivers in the dynamic IT industry.

Y4iT has inspired thousands of students and educators alike from across the country, encouraging awareness and networking with like-minded IT professionals. Since its inception in 2003, it has gradually grown to become the leading IT congress in the country.

The Day 1 of Y4it 2021 was held via Zoom and Youtube Live, with over a thousand of participants, composed of students, professionals, educators, IT experts and enthusiasts, across the country. This year’s Y4it has a theme of “Harnessing Emerging Techonologies for a Better Future”. The organizers invited a great and well-known keynote speaker in the IT industry, such as Mr. George Su, Country Head of ASUS Philippines, that discussed about Hybrid Learning: The Future of Education. He also introduced about ASUS Edukasyon and how to embrace the learning revolution.

In addition, the UP SITF also invited Sec. Gregorio Honasan II, DICT Secretary of Information and Communications Technology, Ms. Crystal Camarao, a No-Code Engineer and an advocate for No-Code Philippines, Mr. Damian Haas, Regional Director of Oracle Academic, and many bigger and greater keynote speaker for the success of the Day 1 of 19th Y4it 2021.

Reflection/ Learnings about webinar

I have a lot of learnings in this webinar, knowing that conducting of Y4it annually have helped a lot of college students, professionals, educators, IT experts and enthusiasts. They have a wider scope in topics that have been tackled in this year’s event.

Personally, my favorite part of the event was the topic about Swift and Swift UI by Ms. Michie Ang, Director of Women Who Code – Manila. Even though I do not have Apple devices, I am fascinated and hooked by the topic of developing through IOS. I have so much fun and learnings in that part of the day 1 of Y4it 2021.

Reflections on possibilities of implementing the learnings on life applications

As I said in the previous part, I have lot of learning in the day 1 of Y4it. Moreover, these learnings also put me into lots of realization as I take my journey of becoming a successful IT individual.

Day 1 of 19th Youth Congress of Information Technology imparted me knowledge that I might consider while I am in the learning stage of my career, such as developing in IOS, Drag and Drop or No-Code Programming, and many more.

Besides, day 1 keynote speakers discussed their topic with full of knowledge to be imparted to their audience, that is surely be in them even in the future.

Positive feedback

Youth Congress in Information Technology, also known as Y4it, is an annual big event where students, professionals, educators, IT experts and enthusiasts across the nation gather. Knowing Y4it as an annual event, it offers knowledge and awesome event more than the expectation of its participants. Y4it 2021 was great even it was the 2nd time that it was held online, the organizers of this annual event meet their aim to provide a high-quality youth congress for IT individuals in the whole nation.

Suggestions for improvements

The whole webinar was excellent. If there’s something to improve, maybe I could suggest to improve their process on how can the audience interact with the keynote speakers and moderators of the event. Moreover, they can also think about any platform where they can accommodate more than thousand of participants because in the day 1 of Y4it, some participants were not be able to join in the Zoom due to the limited capacity of the said platform.
